Creating with Cricut Explore Air 2 is not only fun, but the things you can do with it are limitless. Instead of not getting what you want, make it yourself and save money on lots of things. I have to admit, the first time I heard about the Cricut, it was on an infomercial years ago. It was a very new idea at the time, and the crafter in me was intrigued. It seemed so cool, and as a scrapbooker, I instantly fell in love. For years I had the original Cricut machine which was limited to a six-inch width and required cartridges which could get pricey. Boy how times have changed!

I was given the opportunity to have my very own Cricut Explore Air, and I have to tell you, it blew my old perceptions out of the water! It's definitely not just for scrapbooking (though it's perfect for that too!). In the past, I've shown you a few things on my blog that I've used my Cricut for but I've never actually shown you what creating with Cricut is all about, how easy it is to use and how it can save you money.

You can decorate your whole house creating with Cricut Explore Air 2.

Seriously. There's just so much you can do with it – home decor, party decor, scrapbooking, cardmaking, custom clothing, jewelry – and it's all done easily and quickly without ever having to be attached to your computer. What?! Yes! It works on a Bluetooth connection, just like your smartphone and You can even craft with it from your iPad. Since I received mine, they've introduced the Cricut Explore Air 2 which cuts twice as fast.

Take a look at these fun t-shirts I made for my kids and their cousins at Christmas without really knowing much at all about how to use it! Design space is easy to figure out, and you can adjust everything to customize it to size. They have great video tutorials to walk you through it HERE. If I ordered these custom t-shirts online, they would have cost me at least $20.00 each. These averaged out to less than $10 a shirt.

You can now cut more than just paper with it! Cricut Explore Machines will cut vinyl, wood, fabric, and leather. Up to 100 different materials click HERE to see the entire list! It even cuts then writes. Here is where I made some tags to hang on bottles at a wedding rehearsal dinner for a friend. Custom printing or calligraphy would have cost a ton more than scrapbook paper and a pen.

They have an entire design space online, filled with fun cut files that I can use to make our displays stand out. I also love that you can upload all of your own images for FREE (yes, free) which is perfect for making custom logos that will match our school's mascot, branding, and signage. How perfect is that? Here is one I made for a game at a gala event using this feature.

I shared the link to the cut file above, but I also wanted to show you how I designed this cut file, so you can create your own customized giant vinyl signs as well. To design this cut file I used two Cricut fonts, Emiline and Cricut Stretch. Both of these were free for me to use since I have a Cricut Access membership. I highly recommend getting a membership. Alright, let's get to that tutorial.

1: Create Your Design

First, I made the line that runs underneath each group of letters. There are several different ways you could do that. I just inserted a square shape onto my canvas.

Then I clicked the unlock button on the bottom left-hand corner.

Then I adjusted the size until it looked just right. Tip: Copy & paste this line to use on each row of the alphabet.

Next I typed in my first line Aa Bb Cc Dd using the Emiline font.

Use the letter space feature to spread the letters out to fit your space. I wanted each line to roughly match up. Since some lines had 4 letter pairs & some had 5, I just eyeballed it until the letter spacing matched the line below.

As I typed out each line, I used the weld tool to weld just that line together.

Tip: You will need to weld each line separately. If you hit select all & welded everything together at once, the design would be much too big to fit on your Cricut cutting mat.

I used the grid lines in Design Space to make sure everything was spaced exactly how I wanted it. FYI: Cursive Alphabet is written using the Cricut Stretch font.

3: Weed Your Design

After you cut out the design, you will carefully weed out the excess vinyl.

4: Apply on Your Sign

Next, you will put a piece of transfer tape over your weeded vinyl.

Gil scott heron pieces of a man rar. Cut each line of your design apart. Remove the backing paper & place the vinyl where you'd like it to be. I just eyeballed my placement. It doesn't have to be perfect. Gently rub the vinyl in place.

Then carefully remove the transfer tape leaving the vinyl letters behind. Torque spec harley. If you notice, mine is not spaced perfectly or in a perfectly straight line but overall it adds to the vintage farmhouse chalkboard style that I was going for.

5: Rub Chalk on Your Sign

To make this sign look like an actual chalkboard I rubbed a piece of chalk in the corners & around the edges to make it look chalky.
